Weekly Rundown: 2019 Futures League Week 3

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Another week has gone by in the Futures League 2019 season and, as always, it did not disappoint. We saw a great mix of everything. From explosions of offense and power to low-scoring pitchers duels, this week was full of amazing baseball for the fans to see.

Monday, June 10th

Nashua 7, Westfield 2

The Nashua Silver Knights scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 7-2 victory over the Westfield Starfires. Kyle Sandstrom lead the way for Nashua going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Westfield’s Thomas Joyce was the highlight of their lineup going 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Tuesday, June 11th

North Shore 4, Bristol 2

The North Shore Navigators held the Bristol Blues to just two runs and held on for the 4-2 win in a fairly low-scoring game Tuesday night. Dominic Freeburger shined for the Navigators going 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI. Brandon Miller was one of the only bright spots in the Bristol lineup going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Pittsfield 11, Nashua 5

The Pittsfield Suns had a great offensive performance and put up 11 runs on 15 hits for the 11-5 victory over the Nashua Silver Knights. Mark Coley had a monster performance for the Suns going 3 for 5 with two home runs, a triple, four runs scored, and five RBIs to lead the team. The Silver Knights had a tough day at the plate but Billy Butler had a good day finishing 1 for 1 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Brockton 10, Nashua 8

The Brockton Rox hit four home runs and scored 10 runs to outscore the Nashua Silver Knights 10-8 in Brockton Wednesday morning. Mitch Donofrio had a great day for the Rox finishing 3 for 4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Gabe Giosso had a good day at the plate for the Rox going 3 for 5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs. Kyle Sandstrom lead the way for the Silver Knights going 2 for 6 with three RBIs.

The Pittsfield Suns continued their offensive hot streak on Wednesday as they defeat the Westfield Starfires 7-3. Kyle Cronk and Andrew Fernandez both went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Suns. Matt Malcom also had a good day going 1 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Westfield’s Devin Kellogg had three of the team’s five hits in the game finishing 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Bristol 3, Worcester 0

The Bristol Blues scored three runs on just two hits to shutout the Worcester Bravehearts 3-0. Although the Bravehearts had more hits with three, it was an Anthony Donofrio two-run double in the second inning that seemed to be the difference for the Blues. Donofrio finished 1 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Worcester had a tough day at the plate with one hit from Mariano Ricciardi, Jakob Sessa, and Paul Coumoulos.

The Brockton Rox exploded for 14 hits and 10 runs to defeat the Bristol Blues 10-6 Thursday night. Andrew Marra lead the Rox offense going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Casey O’Laughlin had a good day as well for the Rox going 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Danny Roth stood out for the Blues going 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

The Westfield Starfires had 10 hits but only one run to show for it as the North Shore Navigators outscore them 3-1. Tyler MacGregor lead the way for the Navigators going 2 for 4 with and RBI. The Starfires had multiple players with multiple hits but could only get one run. Tommy Quinn got the RBI and finished 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Starfires.

The Nashua Silver Knights put up nine runs Friday night to beat the Bristol Blues by a score of 9-2. Kyle Sandstrom lead the way for Nashua going 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Joe Bramanti also had a good day at the plate for going 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Brandon Miller shined for Bristol going 2 for 3 with a run scored in a tough offensive day for the Blues.

The Worcester Bravehearts took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to defeat the Brockton Rox 6-5 in a close game. Mariano Ricciardi lead the way for the Bravehearts going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. J.P. Knight stood out in the Rox lineup going 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

It was a pitching duel in Pittsfield on Saturday night. The Pittsfield Suns scored a run in the bottom of the tenth inning to walk off with the 2-1 win against the Worcester Bravehearts. Mark Coley had a great day at the plate for the Suns going 2 for 5 with the walk-off RBI single in the tenth inning. The Bravehearts had just five hits in the game and Nicholas Martin seemed to find the most offensive success going 1 for 4 with a run scored.

The Nashua Silver Knights held the Westfield Starfires to just three hits and one run and went on to earn the 8-1 victory. Joe Bramanti had a great day at the plate for Nashua going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Andrew Ciacciarelli found the most success in a quiet day for the Starfires offense going 1 for 4 with a run scored.

The Brockton Rox were outhit 6-5 in the game but managed to hold off the North Shore Navigators for the 5-4 victory. Eddy Hart shined for the Rox going 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Colin Wetterau was responsible for all four of the Navigators RBIs as he went 2 for 4 with four RBIs.
