FCBL to Launch New Official Podcast, "Back to the Futures"

WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- In anticipation of its 10th season of summer collegiate baseball in New England, the Futures Collegiate Baseball League is excited to announce the launch of “Back to the Futures: The Official Podcast of the FCBL.”

The Futures League’s first-ever official podcast will debut this month and continue through the end of the 2020 season. New episodes are scheduled to be released on Mondays and Thursdays. Players, coaches, front office staff, executives and others involved in the league will be interviewed throughout the bi-weekly series.

Several podcast episodes prior to the start of the 2020 season will feature interviews with returning players discussing their prior experiences in the league, preparations for the upcoming summer in spite of their college baseball seasons being cut short and other “quick hit” items that will help fans get to know their favorite FCBL players a bit off the field.

FCBL Sideline Reporter/Studio Host Matt Sottile will host and produce the podcast. The graduating Boston College senior from East Granby, Conn., returns to the FCBL after serving as the public address announcer and game operations specialist for the Westfield Starfires last summer. At BC, Sottile was the co-executive director of WZBC Sports Radio.

“It is incredibly exciting to be able to launch this podcast and provide our fans with content from the Futures League’s brightest stars,” Sottile said. “We want to get everyone energized for what we hope will be a tremendous summer of baseball. Until that point, we are committed to producing something special that will give everyone a taste of the FCBL that we all love and miss.”

Among Sottle’s first guests will be returning North Shore Navigators outfielder Sean Lawlor, the FCBL’s reigning Most Valuable Player.

The FCBL’s second-year Social Media Coordinator, Owen Shadrick, will join Sottile as a co-host on selected episodes. The Hingham, Mass., native is a rising senior Sport Management/Sport Journalism major at the University of Massachusetts.

“This podcast is just another way we can bring our great brand of baseball to our fans,” Futures League Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “We will bring the voice of our players, coaches and executives directly to the fans and give them more access than they are used to having. This will be a great new experience for everyone.”

Futures League fans will be able to listen to “Back to the Futures: The Official Podcast of the FCBL” on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud and YouTube. Links to each new episode will also be posted on the league’s website,, as well as Facebook and Twitter.
