Bravehearts, Suns play despite Rainy Monday

Monday’s action was limited due to rain with two of the three scheduled games being postponed. The game featuring the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at the Nashua Silver Knights has been postponed to July 12th as a doubleheader starting at 6PM. The game featuring the Brockton Rox at the North Shore Navigators has also been postponed. The game will be made up on June 14th as part of a doubleheader beginning at 4:30PM. However, the Worcester Bravehearts traveled to Wahconah Park to take on the Pittsfield Suns.
 
In the lone game on Monday the Worcester Bravehearts took down the Pittsfield Suns 8-1 at Wahconah Park. The game was scoreless through 3 innings and in the 4th inning the Bravehearts took a 1-run lead off a solo homerun from Mack Cheli (Chapman). The Bravehearts add to their lead with a 1-run 6th inning, 3-run 7th inning, and a 2-run 8th inning. The Bravehearts were led by their starting pitcher Cody Laweryson (UMaine) who pitched 6 innings allowing just two hits and striking out 9 in his first victory of the season. Offensively the Bravehearts were led by Mack Cheli (Chapman) who was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and hit his second homerun of the season and Alex Gionis (Holy Cross) who went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Mack Cheli (Chapman) and Cody Laweryson (UMaine) were named the On-Deck Sports Player and Pitcher of the Night.
 

Futures League action continues Tuesday June 5th with some day games. The Pittsfield Suns welcome the Bristol Blues to Wahconah Park. The Brockton Rox travel to Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field to take on the Worcester Bravehearts and the Nashua Silver Knights welcome the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks to Holman Stadium.
